Meet The Locals: Aleshia from the Sunrise Coffee Shack

Meet the barista…
Kia ora, I’m Aleshia and I first started making coffee 17 years ago in a coffee van in Central Queensland. Funny fact: I hated coffee up until that job. I hated the smell and the taste but since I was going to be making coffee as a job, I thought I better start drinking it.
Fast forward 17 years and I have probably had a coffee everyday of my life since.
I looovvvveee coffee; I now live and breathe it. I love the smell, the taste and the feeling when the first couple of mouthfuls warms your soul. I love the conversation, I love the culture and that feeling when your coffee is made just right.
I get such satisfaction out of getting that perfect shot, with velvety textured milk and the perfect pour. Making a good cup of coffee is part science, part art, part repetition and it takes a lot of different elements coming together to make it just right.
I have been lucky enough to travel around the world through working in hospitality and tourism and have worked with such fun people. Some of my highlights were working at ski fields in Canada and Australia and working in Melbourne where I really fine tuned my coffee making skills. I have learnt from incredible baristas and roasters and continue to learn more every day as the industry evolves & I have been able to evolve with it. It’s this evolution that has brought me to where I am today; proudly owning my first small business, with my partner Riki.
Last year my partner asked me what made me happiest in a job and it was making coffee. So, after chatting to the local community, and with his support, push, a giant leap of faith and support from the Brightwater community, we decided to bring this dream and my passion for coffee into what you see today at the Sunrise Coffee Shack.
Thanks to all of those who have supported us so far into making my dream into a reality…making your coffee daily truly is a honour ❤️
