Meet the Locals: Melissa – inspired initiator of The Big Bake Up

In February this year, The Big Bake Up began the exciting progress of extending our services to providing care parcels to our community of Wakefield and surrounding areas.

We hold cook ups at our local Wakefield Village Hall every 2 -3 weeks. Each cook up is organised via our Facebook team group, we confirm a date and ask for a team of around 6 people. It’s great fun cooking together and very rewarding knowing you are helping others.

Our meals are packaged and labeled and then placed in our freezer at the Wakefield Village Hall. All requests for food come through The Big Bake Up Facebook page or by contacting us by email or phone.

We have meals in freezers around the district. Wakefield School, Brightwater School, Hope School, Pinegrove Kindergarten, Brightwater Playcentre, Wakefield Playcentre, St Pauls Anglican Church Brightwater, St John’s Anglican Church Wakefield – Mainly Music and Fossil Creek Farm.

Our care packs are made up and delivered to your home. As they are frozen items, we would make contact before delivery to ensure you will be home.

We have lovely team members who enjoy baking and provide us with items for us to include in our care packs going out each week.

We are passionate about helping others. There are many reasons why people receive these meals, some of them include family illness, recovery from treatments or operations, change in family circumstances, financial hardship, passing of a loved one, new baby in the family and many more reasons.

You can receive meals for yourself, you can receive meals for someone you know and pass them on yourself, or you can nominate for someone to receive a parcel from us.

Some of our previous cookups have been:
Shepherds Pie, Macaroni Cheese, Bangers & Mash, Roasted Vegetables, Pumpkin Soup, Chicken Pasta, and Cottage Pie.
Also, lovely desserts – Apple Crumble and Cheesecakes.

We rely on local sponsorship to keep this great work going. Whether you can donate grocery items for our cook ups, whether you can donate $20 or $200 or whether you have a business that may be keen to offer monthly or yearly sponsorship. We are also delighted to have applied to become a registered charity= and look forward to seeing how this can open even more doors in our journey to help others.

Contact us if you know of someone who may be in need of a little kindness or if you maybe able to offer some support to our work.
